Wrong way semi

TOPEKA, Kan. (KAKE) - A semi-truck driver was arrested after the Kansas Highway Patrol says he drove the wrong way while impaired on the Kansas Turnpike.

Dispatch advised of a semi traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-470 in Topeka around 11 p.m. Monday. The semi continued the wrong way when entering the Kansas Turnpike.

A trooper that was in the area assisting a broke down motorist observed the semi passing him, and paralleled it using emergency lights and spotlight to alert the driver. The semi traveled for about four miles on the Turnpike before coming to a stop in a construction zone.

The trooper hopped the median barrier wall and contacted the driver, and began to conduct an impaired driving investigation. Another trooper was called in to continue the testing, with the driver being arrested for impaired driving along with the wrong way driving.
