MANHATTAN, Kan. (KAKE) - Kansas State football ended last season ranked in the top three in Big 12 red zone and scoring defense. Now three weeks out from the 2024 season opener, defensive coordinator Joe Klanderman said the unit is moving with tons of speed, versatility and impacting the tempo of offense.
Marques Sigle grabbed three interceptions Tuesday morning by himself and players said they've been creating turnovers at a high rate during fall camp. It may not necessarily be positive for the offense but it's a quick flip for more chances at points come gametime.
"We've been getting picks, fumbles recoveries, it's ridiculous. I didn't really see it because in spring ball we were still trying to feel out what type of team we wanted to be, but since day one we've been getting fumbles and picks left and right," Kansas State senior safety Jordan Riley said.
Klanderman said, ability-wise this group is perhaps the best he's been around in Manhattan.
"I think we're playing with more speed now and I think it's gotten even better," Klanderman said. "There hasn't been anybody taking their foot off the gas. I think these guys are really driven."
The Wildcats open their season hosting UT Martin on Aug 31st with kickoff set for 6 p.m.
