CHICAGO, Ill. (KAKE) - It is day two of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago and close to 5000 delegates from all over are there, including some from Kansas.

Democrats have not had an in-person convention since 2016 and Kansas delegates say the energy could not be any more upbeat.

"Everyone is excited. When the vice president came on stage yesterday at the United Center, it felt like the roof was going to blow off," said Kansas Democratic Chair Jeanna Repass.

Also at the convention, representing Kansas is Community Advocate Lawanda DeShazer who said, "There's Harris signs. People are fired up, they're energetic, the vibe is really good right now."

Repass told KAKE that when President Biden hit the stage, he was unable to start his speech because of the applause from the crowd lasted so long.

She added that people had their concerns about Biden but said Harris is someone they believe could lead this country.

Kansas Delegate Brock Booker feels there is a willingness from people to get more involved this time around.

"Many people have donated to the campaign or should we say progressive movement for the first time," said Booker.

Deshazer said there are topics at the forefront many people are discussing, such as women’s rights.

Repass added, "People don't want their freedoms taken away. People believe in democracy. People believe in public education. People believe in fair tax plans. People believe in healthcare. These are things that we message. People believe in Medicare and Medicaid."

Tuesday night is a roll call which is done state by state.

Repass will stand at the mic giving all 39 Kansas delegates to Vice President Kamala Harris.

There will also be a lineup of speakers Tuesday including Former President Barack Obama, Former First Lady Michelle Obama and Senator Bernie Sanders. Â
