EL DORADO, Kan. (KAKE) - Reporters were not allowed in the Butler County courtroom Monday for the detention hearing of the two underage girls accused of killing 93-year-old Joanne Johnson of Augusta.Â
Both girls appeared in court through Zoom from the counties where they are being held. The two teens were arrested last week in connection with the death of Johnson. Â
A family found Johnson in her Augusta home Labor Day weekend of last year.Â
Earlier this year, Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly's office announced a $5,000 Governor's Reward for information in the case. Johnson's family offered to match it, increasing the total reward to $10,000.
The KBI did not say what information and/or evidence led to the teens' arrests.Â
In an update to KAKE on Friday afternoon, the KBI says the names of the juveniles will not be released.Â
A relationship between the accused teens and Johnson has not yet been identified, the KBI said.
A Judge set the next court date for both girls for August 29 at 9 a.m. where they will hear the charges against them. Â
