WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Authors poured inspiration into aspiring bookwriters Saturday morning at the Wichita Advanced Learning Library.

They shared experiences with published writers as well as those who are up-and-coming.

Special Education teacher Jessie Fishel and author of Wands and Worksheets: The Magical Adventures of a Fifth Grade Wizard said she got exactly what she was looking for Saturday.

"I came here just to learn about the process from other authors, what are they doing; how are there experiences of finding an agent; getting rejections; and what inspires them," said Fishel.

Panelists gave advice to the crowd drawing from personal experience.

Historical fiction writer and author of The Rhino Keeper, Jillian Forsberg, dealt with lots of rejection.

She said a rejection fence is how she worked through disappointment before getting published.

"I wandered the antique mall until I found a white picket fence and I covered it with flowers every single time I got a rejection. I started out painting really big ones and realized that I am going to fill this fence pretty quickly,"  said Forsberg.

Library manager Savannah Ball said it is important to have published writers share experiences with people interested in becoming writers.

Ball added the goal is to help people thrive in whatever they pursue.
