WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - A 35-year-old man who police believe was involved in a shooting has died following a crash in east Wichita.

Officers responded at around 6:40 p.m. Monday to a domestic disturbance with shots fired near Harry and Woodlawn. A moment later, police were called to a crash in the 700 block of South Woodlawn.

WPD spokesperson Andrew Ford said a minivan heading north of Woodlawn had hit a tree. An off-duty firefighter witnessed the crash and provided lifesaving measures until EMS arrived and took over. The man, Joshua Brooks, was pronounced dead at the scene just before 7:30 p.m.

Preliminary information from witnesses suggests the man who fled the scene of the disturbance is the same man involved in the crash, Ford said. A firearm was recovered from the vehicle.

No one was injured in the disturbance. Ford said the medical examiner's office will determine the official cause of Brooks' death.

Kansas Department of Corrections records show Brooks had prior convictions of criminal possession of a firearm by a felon in 2008 and domestic battery (3rd conviction within five years) in 2015.
